ATENVELDT COLLEGE OF HERALDS 15 December 2010, A.S. XLV
Letter of Intent Kingdom of Atenveldt

Unto Olwynn Laurel; Mari Pelican; Istvan Wreath; and the commenting Members of the College of Arms,

Greetings of the Season from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald and Parhelium Herald for the Kingdom of Atenveldt!

The Atenveldt College of Heralds requests the consideration and registration of the following names and armory with the College of Arms.

Please note: Unless specifically stated, the submitter will accept any spelling and grammar corrections; all assistance is appreciated.

1. Eilica Weiss: NEW NAME and DEVICE

Or, a pale chequy azure and argent, overall a heart gules.

The name is German. Eilica is a feminine given name; the abbess Eilica served as the fifth abbess of Quedlingberg Abbey, 1095-1110 (The Uta Codex: Art, Philosophy, and Reform in Eleventh-Century Germany, Adam S. Cohen, ISBN 978-0-271-01959-8, p. 13). There was also another Abbess Eilica, 1180-1215/17, of Herford, Germany (Vita Godefridi comitis Capenbergensis, http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/OLDENBURG.htm, Chapter 1. GRAFEN von OLDENBURG 1149-1667.

Weiss is a New High German byname, 'white' („Some Early Middle High German Bynames with Emphasis on Names from the Bavarian Dialect Area,“ Brian M. Scott, http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/talan/Early_German_Bynames.html ).

The client desires a female name and is most interested in the sound of the name and the language/culture (12th C. German). She will not accept Major Changes to the name.

2. Leticia Troischesnes: BADGE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, September 2010

Checky gules and argent, a hen couchant contourny Or.

This badge was returned for conflict with the device of Anne of Bradford, Azure, chapé, a chicken martletted close to sinister Or. “Chapé is considered part of the field, not a charge on the field. Therefore there is only a single CD for the changes to the field.” Anne of Bradford, along with the help of several members of the West Kingdom's College of Heralds, has graciously provided permission for Leticia's badge to conflict with her armory. The College of Arms also noted in the original return that the badge is clear of the device of John Aquila of Eaglesdown, Purpure, an eagle close to sinister Or. There is a CD for the changes to the field and a CD for the change of type of primary charge, since close is a period posture for eagles (which I think is a typo, and ought to read something to the effect that close is not a period posture for eagles – the College of Arms Glossary shows displayed as the conventional SCA default posture for eagles).

3. Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy: BLANKET PERMISSION TO CONFLICT

The client provides signed paperwork for Blanket Permission to Conflict:

Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy (primary persona name);

Per chevron vert and or, in base a satyr dancing and piping proper.;

Per chevron vert and Or, in base a satyr dancing and piping proper and as an augmentation on a canton azure a sun in glory within a bordure Or.;

Or, pellety, a rabbit sejant affronte sable, muzzled, bellied, and forelegged, argent.;

Or, a brunette sirin harpy statant guardant to sinister proper within a bordure engrailed vert.;

(Fieldless) A bat displayed Or, masoned vert.; and

(Fieldless) A billet fesswise gules, bat-winged sable.

4. Symond Bayard le Gris: BLANKET PERMISSION TO CONFLICT

The client provides signed paperwork for Blanket Permission to Conflict:

Symond Bayard le Gris (primary persona name);

Kameyama Bakumaru (alternate persona name);

Azure, a candle and candlestick argent enflamed proper, between a dexter point ploye, a sinister point ployé, and a base argent.;

Or, a Malayan tapir statant to sinister breathing flames proper. [Acrocodia indica]; and

Sable, a Japanese tapir sejant, head raised, within an annulet argent.

This letter contains 1 new name, 1 new device, 1 badge resubmission and 2 blanket permissions to conflict. This is a total of 5 items, 2 of them new.

A check to cover fees will be sent separately.

Thank you again for your great indulgence and patience, your expertise and your willingness to share it.

I remain,

Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy
