ATENVELDT COLLEGE OF HERALDS 25 June 2014, A.S. XLIX
Letter of Intent Kingdom of Atenveldt

Unto Gabriel Laurel; Lillia Pelican; Brunissende Wreath; and the commenting Members of the College of Arms,

Greetings from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald and Parhelium Herald for the Kingdom of Atenveldt!

The Atenveldt College of Heralds requests the consideration and registration of the following names and armory with the College of Arms.

Unless specifically stated, the submitter will accept any spelling and grammar corrections; all assistance is appreciated.

1. `Izza al-Zarqa': NEW BADGE
(Fieldless) A horse's head erased purpure, maned Or.

The name was registered July 2012.

The client uses elements of her registered device, Purpure, two horses combattant and a chief Or.
It was suggested that an artist's note to open up the erasing so it's more obvious that the head is, in fact, erased, be furnished to the client.

2. Nâr Gul Attar: NEW NAME and DEVICE
Vert, a cobra erect tail nowed Or and in dexter chief a six-petaled flower argent.

The name is Timurid Persian. Nâr Gul, "pomegranate flower," is found in "Some Persian Feminine Names and Etymologies From the Timurid Dynasty," Ursula Georges, http://yarntheory.net/ursulageorges/names/timuridpersian.html (14th-15th C).
The occupational byname `At.t.âr, "perfumer," is found in "Persian Masculine Names in the Nafah.ât al-uns," Ursula Georges, http://www.s-gabriel.org/names/ursula/nafahat/. It is found in a 15th C manuscript and is a masculine byname; perhaps it might be a description of a daughter's father, or it might describe the activities of a woman herself. Considering the use of diactricals in both element of the name, it is probably wise to use them throughout (Nâr Gul `At.t.âr) or not use them as all (Nar Gul Attar).
The blazon is taken from the registered armory of Livia Alexandra Severa, Gyronny gules and ermine, a cobra erect tail nowed vert.
An alternate blazon was offered: Vert, a cobra erect tail nowed Or and in dexter chief a sexfoil argent.

3. Seonaid McDaid: NEW NAME CHANGE and NEW BADGE
Per pale purpure and argent, a tower counterchanged and on a chief per pale argent and azure, a shamrock counterchanged.

Old Item: Seonaid inghean Mhuireadhaigh, to be retained as an alternate name.
The original name was registered January 2011.

The client is adopting the SCA byname of her legal husband, Seamus McDaid (he provides permission to conflict). MacDade/MacDaid is found in Black, p. 485, a Scots family name. At the time of Seamus' registration, McDaid was considered an acceptable spelling. The clients provide a What she needs is a Letter Documenting Legal Relationship for Grandfather Clause.
The construction of this name suggests, unfortunately, an incestuous relationship rather than a husband/wifre relationship. (paraphrasing AmC)

This is a badge to be jointly registered with Seamus McDaid. Seamus' name was registered December 1999. The badge uses elements from Seonaid's registered device, Per pale purpure and argent, three towers counterchanged. (as Seonaid inghean Mhuireadhaigh), and Seamus' registered device, Per pale argent and azure, a shamrock counterchanged.

Again, the tincture on the paper form appears as purple.

4. Wade Greenwall: NEW BADGE
(Fieldless) An annulet beviled eight times Or.

The name was registered June 2013.

It is unclear whether a beviled treatment is period for an annulet (as it is for an ordinary like a bend, or a line of division). Also, if it is, the armory registed to Hafr-Tóki should be considered, Sable, a stag's antler in annulo conjoined to itself Or.

If reference is needed, Hafr-Tóki's armory was OSCAR entry #: http://oscar.sca.org/index.php?action=145&id=34751

I was assisted in the preparation of this Letter of Intent by Commentary is provided by Commentary provided by Alys Mackyntoich, Aryanhwy merch Catmael, Aria Gemina Mala, ffride wlffsdotter and Gunnvor silfraharr.

This letter contains 1 new name, 1 new name change, 1 new device, and 3 new badges. This is a total of 6 items, all of them new.

Thank you to those who have provided your great indulgence and patience, your expertise and your willingness to share it thus far, and to those who will do the same as this is presented to the College entire.
