(administered by the Brickbat Herald)

1 January 2001, A.S. XXXV
Kingdom of Atenveldt

Unto Their Royal Majesties Johnathan and Etain; Lady Isabel d'Avron, Aten Principal Herald; the Heralds in the Atenveldt College of Heralds; and to All Whom These Presents Come,

Greetings from Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Brickbat Herald!

This is the January 2001 internal Atenveldt Letter of Intent. It precedes the external LoI that will contain the following submissions, asking questions of submitters and local heralds who have worked with them; if these questions are not addressed, the submission may be returned by the Atenveldt College of Heralds. You are encouraged to comment upon these submissions, whatever your experience level. Please have your comments to me on the submissions being considered for the 1 February LoI by 25 January. I accept online commentary:

Estrella Consultation Table: I believe that there will be a Consultation Table at the War, in the Merchants' Area (if you think I haven't been keeping up with this, you're right!). I'll have full details of the Table in the February report. HOWEVER, you are encouraged to think ahead and consider volunteering a few hours at the Table; if your forte' is also in Town Crying volunteer for that important role! (Of course, no one will stop you if you simply must volunteer for both!)

Name Documentation: Keep in mind, that if one GOOD source of a name is found (e.g., articles in the Medieval Names Archive online or from the sources listed in the College of Arms Administrative Handbook), I don't need one or two other pieces of documentation for the same name element. You might note (as a local herald or a submitter), that I might not use a piece of documentation that you know was sent with the submissions packet; in all likelihood, that was a poor name source (such as Kolatch, Younge, or Hanks and Hodges); I've replaced the provided documentation with something that the College of Arms will accept.

Submissions Website: You can send electronic commentary on the most recent internal LoIs through the site, in addition to any questions you might have. Please let your local populace know about the site, too: atensubmissions.nexiliscom.com.

Please consider the following submissions for inclusion in the 1 February 2001 Atenveldt Letter of Intent:

Four Mountains, Incipient Shire of the (Chinle, AZ): DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Kingdom, December 2000

Argent, on a bend cotised azure, four mountains couped palewise argent, in sinister chief a laurel wreath vert.

While this will still require a populace consent form, the seneschal has requested feedback for this redesigned armory.

Geneviève de Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (Granite Mountain): NEW NAME and DEVICE

Purpure, a sun Or eclipsed by a moon in her plentitude azure between three compass stars argent.

The name is French. St. Geneviève is the patron saint of Paris, born in 422 (Withycombe, pp. 127-8). Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is a medieval village, located in the Lot Valley of southern France (http://quercy.net/qyercy/st-cirq-lapopie/)

James of Leslie (Granite Mountain): NEW NAME and DEVICE

Purpure, a lymphad argent between three compass stars Or, on a chief argent, a cross moline purpure.

The name is English. James is a saint's name, common in England (Withycombe, pp. 170-2). Leslie is a town north of Edinburgh, Scotland, across the Firth of Forth (Bartholomew Clan Names Map). [This is a nice period name, and it incorporates the first and middle legal names of the submitter, Leslie James...]

The following submissions appear in the 1 January 2001 Atenveldt Letter of Intent:

Aleyn Randwulf (Atenveldt): NEW NAME

Galen O Seancain (Aurochsford):DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Kingdom, July 2000 (Per pall inverted purpure, sable and Or, two wolves' heads erased addorsed argent and a tree blasted and couped vert.)

The original submission was returned for tincture violation and potential redesign.

Gil Gareth the Greywolf (Atenveldt): NEW NAME

Gracian de La Rochelle (Granite Mountain): NEW NAME and DEVICE (Purpure, a sea-serpent ondoyant and a bordure argent, charged with eight fleurs-de-lys azure.

Katherine Bradon of Carlisle (Atenveldt): DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, July 2000 (Argent, a spider web throughout azure charged with a spider sable, a bordure embattled azure, ermined argent.)

Llewellyn Baedd Gwyn (Atenveldt): NEW NAME and DEVICE (Per chevron sable and gules, a chevron and in base a boar statant argent).

Although this is extraordinarily simple armory, there are some RfS that protect it because of the simplicity. We think that because no registered armory uses boars as secondaries around a chevron, nor a single boar, this might be clear of conflict.

Michela Delphino (Atenveldt): DEVICE RESUBMISSION from Laurel, April 2000 (Per fess azure and vert, a cross argent between in chief two sets of five mullets in saltire Or and in base two dolphins haurient respectant argent.)

The following submissions were returned by the Atenveldt College of Heralds, December 2000:

Lachland MacBean of Kinchyle (Atenveldt): NEW DEVICE (Argent, a wildcat sable, marked argent, rampant, maintaining a targe gules.)

RETURNED for conflict.

I remain,

Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy
